Dear Miss H___,

I heard today what happened in class from my mother and Mrs. Dembeck. Brendon is sorry for what he did and has told us he will apologize to Ryan. I asked Brendon why he would do something like that, being he knows spitting is not allowed in our home. He told me that he spit on Ryan because the boy called him silly and stupid. Stupid is one of the words that are not allowed to be said in our home about others. I certainly do NOT condone Brendon spitting on anyone for any reason and told him so. I also let Brendon know that no matter what anyone says, Mommy, Daddy, Guinevere, Grandma & Papap, Mema & Poppi, Dedus & Babaanne, all his aunts & uncles & cousins, and everyone who knows and loves him, knows he is silly when he wants to be, but never stupid.

I wasn’t sure if you were aware of the entire event. I realize that having 1st graders, 2nd graders and the class being larger than normal, makes it difficult being 20+ places at once. And while there is no point in saying something to that child after the fact, the whole story should be clear to us adults. It should also be recognized that Brendon most assuredly comprehends and understands very well his environment and what is spoken to and around him. It is unfortunate that he handled the situation poorly, however, he is six and it’s our jobs to teach, nurture and care for his well-being.

I understand that Brendon needs to value people around him and he must be mindful of where he moves, dances, shakes and shimmies. We will definitely work on that with him; sometimes he needs reminding. My mother told me she informed you of the 1…2…3… rule that I have on both of the kids…it works great and should help out quite a bit. I look forward to our talk on Friday October 12, 2001 at 3:30p to discuss Brendon’s academic progress…I hope that date and time work for you. We’ll also be at the Ice Cream Social on that date too. Mrs. Dembeck said she would be attending, I hope you as well.

Brendon drew a picture for you after the first day of school. It stayed in his folder for a week. I’m sorry that I didn’t put a note on it so you would know it was for you because Guinevere has spilled on it and it is un-presentable now. He’s also working on a letter to give to you, but don’t tell him I told you. It’s a surprise.

I’m sure that we can make Brendon's transition to first grade easy although a little bumpiness builds character. Hope you have a great weekend.
