We celebrated Guin’s 4th on Monday. It was supposed to be Thursday, but the house was atrocious and I was in no way prepared. Julide had left that morning and so most of us were exhausted. I postponed. I have to put the pics up of the cake and the “coloring table” I had everyone sign. We have big long paper for the kids to draw on…Daddy gets it from work. So what I did was cover the dining room table and leave pens, pencils, crayons, and markers for family to get creative on. I free styled Guin’s name in all the pink crayons I could find in the new 96 colors box I bought and I think it turned out nice. My folks and Daddy’s folks said it was a great idea. I hope that when Guin gets it later down her road of life, that she’ll appreciate it and remember the fun times. I think so, but you never know with kids. *grin * Barbie, Barbie, Barbie, dress-up clothes, pink summer clothes, a Barbie Fashion bathing suit, goodness! If I went into everything this child got, it would be horrendous. One would think she’s the most spoiled girl in the world. That is the excellent benefit of being the only grand-daughter to my folks and the only grand-daughter that is in this state with B-‘s dad. When it’s Bren’s b-day…it is almost worse! He’s the only grand-son for ALL the grand-parents and the first for my folks and B-‘s dad.

Thank goodness that my kids have such wonderful temperaments and manners. Daddy and I are firm believers that we didn’t do anything to give them the personalities that they have…only that we can help to make sure that they stay healthy and keep that lovely disposition that they have in life. We are truly blessed. I know of several other families that aren’t…my own included. Is it just me or does every parent fear they will contribute to fucking-up their kids instead of being detrimental to them? No, I don’t worry about it all the time…just enough to have people say: “that’s what makes you a good parent.”
Whatever that means!

Yesterday was fun. Sure, I’m ill with a funky back, but I picked Bren up from school. We headed to my mom’s house so she could take care of the kiddies while I rested a bit. Daddy has told and taught the kids about pulling your arm up and down when an 18-wheeler or a Big Rig drives by on the Beltway. We saw a big truck and because it was on my side, I had to make the “horn motion.” At first the driver waved and I told Bren it didn’t look like he was gonna honk it. Bren said he must be grouchy. Then as we were merging off he honked it! Just like in the movies. Just like when I was a kid. Bren and I were hootin’ and hollerin’, so excited about that horn blowing. It was cool! Such a little thing, made both of us so happy and exuberant. I started cryin’ as is my way when special moments happen and I couldn’t help wonder if it was somethin’ that Bren would remember or if it was just a passing fancy of his. Me, I’ll remember it, just because watching his awareness of the situation…so different than when he was born or even a few years ago. My beautiful baby boy is growing up. Soon, he’ll laugh at me crying when I feel so much love and tenderness for him, showing it in such a “mushy” manner. Well that is my advantage of being a mom: I CAN cry for no reason.
